SoundMAGIC EP30 review
Throughwork
SoundMAGIC started in 2005 and make earphones. ‘EP’ was used for their earbud range(?). These are the most expensive ones.

Build
My package came with one pair of black ear foams, which did not fit the aesthetic, were corroded and needed to be replaced.
Both the packaging and the build are cool. The cable is one of the thinnest, but is soft and doesn’t tangle much. There’s an interesting strain relief on the housing which feels like moulded rubber. The housings have slimmer stems then the usual stock components. The EP30s are all‐plastic/rubber, but feel not only through‐thought, but through‐manufactured. As much as you can ask, they look robust. No issues with comfort and ease of use. Aesthetically, they show what you can do with cheap materials—the metal rim, material textures, the way the components fit together—I wouldn’t mind unpacking and wearing these anywhere.
Sound
Only passable volume. They don’t seem to emphasise any frequency–maybe low horns are quiet (unusual, that one), and top bass a little high, but relatively, it’s a small emphasis. They have reasonable volume range. They are outstanding at timing. They seem to compress a little in the highband, but otherwise don’t respond to swells at all. Attack and decay is neat. When deeper notes register they have a balance that is wonderous. Frequency range is limited, which may add a little fog, but is within limits that match most sources. They are outstanding at not sounding echo. Details are muted, but not entirely missing, color is good everywhere. Scale is good, positioning is reasonable.
The lightness and a few rasps make these only a reasonable for voice. After that… EP30s are have little emphasis of volume, and no duff frequencies. They are informative and neat for orchestral strings, so awesome. The volume and frequency range are limited, so some would not not like them for pop and rock, but the EP30’s timing and shaping play those musics where others scatter sound effects. They are the best for solo instruments and, surprising, while they lack drama, their clarity is good for game and soundtrack atmosphere.

Assess
SoundMAGIC seem to have abandoned earbuds, so EP30s are probably not available.
EP30s exist because SoundMAGIC make earphones, and every manufacturer was trying earbuds at the time. They are a build that seems to make all the right gestures. Compared to others, they need power, but they repay that with zen‐like timing and volumes, never more or less than needed, and clarity. This is awesome for orchestral strings and solo/minimal musics. If you want volume, frequency range, or acute detail then head elsewhere, but otherwise EP30 timing can play pop and rock. They can play anything.
A dynamic driver, it’s interesting that, alongside the lack of detail, EP30s do not develop color. Perhaps that’s the efficient way they breathe? They may only be plastic, but the housings lack echo and resonance. Aside from a few people who say they used EP30s there’s nothing said about them, or the other earbuds that were in the range. They’re not impressive, but art.
